Advancing Emergency Care: Launch of Medina Hospital’s New Emergency Department

In a landmark event for Somalia’s healthcare system, the Special Presidential Envoy for Health and Nutrition, Hon. Abdirahman Mohamed Sheikh, participated in the inauguration of the newly established Emergency Department at Medina Hospital, Mogadishu. The ceremony was led by Prime Minister H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre and attended by key government officials, including the Federal Minister of Health, Dr. Ali Haji Adam, and other dignitaries.

This state-of-the-art facility was constructed with funds raised by the Somali people in response to the devastating Zoobe 2 bombing in October 2022. Designed to provide cutting-edge care for trauma and emergency cases, the department represents a significant enhancement to Somalia’s capacity to deliver urgent medical services.

Hon. Abdirahman Mohamed Sheikh pointed to the critical role this facility will play in improving healthcare outcomes for both civilian and military populations. He also acknowledged the collective efforts of the National Emergency Committee, the Ministry of Health, and all stakeholders involved in bringing this project to fruition.
