UNASOMALIA Honors Hon. Abdirahman Mohamed Shiekh with Prestigious Human Rights Award

The United Nations Association of Somalia (UNASOMALIA) has presented its annual Human Rights Award to Honorable Abdirahman Mohamed Shiekh, the Special Presidential Envoy for Health and Nutrition of the Federal Republic of Somalia, during a formal ceremony held at Accord University in Mogadishu.

The award recognizes Hon. Abdirahman’s unwavering dedication, courageous advocacy, and transformative contributions to advancing human rights, health equity, and social justice across Somalia. His work has consistently highlighted the interconnection between human dignity and access to quality healthcare and nutrition for all citizens.

In her address, Ms. Hafsa Ali Warsame, UNASOMALIA’s Youth and Student Coordinator, remarked: “ Today, we do not just honor a public official; we honor a leader whose actions embody service and compassion. Hon. Abdirahman’s tireless advocacy for health and human rights reflects the principles of justice and equality enshrined in the United Nations Charter. His leadership continues to inspire the next generation of Somali changemakers.”

The ceremony celebrated Hon. Shiekh’s long-standing impact on Somalia’s public health and governance sectors, particularly his work in promoting inclusive health policies and rights-based development for vulnerable communities.

Ms. Salma Abdi Hassan Omar, UNASOMALIA’s ISIC Sales and Outreach Officer, added: " “This award celebrates a legacy of service that has brought tangible change to Somali lives. Hon. Abdirahman’s efforts go beyond policy—they represent hope, progress, and the promise of a healthier, more equitable Somalia.”

In his acceptance speech, Hon. Abdirahman Mohamed Shiekh expressed heartfelt gratitude to UNASOMALIA and reaffirmed his commitment to advancing human rights through health and nutrition initiatives“This recognition strengthens our resolve to continue building a just and inclusive Somalia—where every person, regardless of background or status, has the right to health, dignity, and opportunity,”  he stated.
